🌊💙💚🩷 First Wave Families is EXPANDING! The wave of family support will soon be reaching the shores of Somerset county with the opening of our Crisfield center on October 15th! This will increase our coverage area to most of the lower Eastern Shore. Families who live in Worcester or Wicomico but are closer to Crisfield are eligible to attend events and programs at First Wave Families Somerset. Our programs are open to ALL Maryland residents with children 4 and under and expectant parents, regardless of income or other qualifications. Parent/caregivers sign up for 1-2 individual slots per month. They are then welcome to use the remainder of the morning and the other Mental Health Matters dates that month for individual work just as they would our Drop In Days program.

First Wave Families is a Patty Center–Family Support Program provided through partnership between Maryland Family Network, the Maryland State Department of Education, and Maple Shade Youth and Family Services. Maryland Patty Center–Family Support Programs offer free services designed to support families with children ages four and younger and expectant parents, including parenting education, developmental screenings, early intervention referrals, playgroups, child socialization opportunities, parent peer support, family engagement activities, and connections to mental health and community resources. The goal is simple: to help infants, toddlers, and preschoolers thrive by ensuring parents and caregivers have access to the information, support, and services they need. The expansion is part of Maryland’s implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, which calls for increased access to comprehensive family support services alongside high-quality early childhood education.

This program is supported through funding from the Maryland State Department of Education’s Division of Early Childhood (DEC), under the Intermediary for the Network of Patty Centers and In-Home Intervention Programs Grant. The content and opinions expressed in this program are those of First Wave Families and do not necessarily reflect the official views of the Maryland State Department of Education.

First Wave Families staff have received training in the Mother Goose on the Loose® early-literacy curriculum, which aligns with Maryland school-readiness goals.
