First Wave Families Expands to SOMERSET COUNTY

NEW Center Opening in Crisfield in September 2026

Families in Somerset County now have greater access to vital resources with the announcement of First Wave Families opening a second center in Crisfield, Maryland. Starting in September, the new center will begin serving Maryland families, but interested families can reach out to staff immediately to connect with helpful resources and opportunities. This expansion brings much-needed family support services closer to home for expectant parents and families with young children on the Eastern Shore.

First Wave Families has built a strong reputation for supporting families in Worcester County at their Berlin center. This expansion reflects a commitment to strengthening family support networks on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Families in Crisfield and the surrounding areas can expect services that include:

  • Guidance on pregnancy health and wellness

  • Support for early childhood development milestones

  • Connections to local healthcare providers and social services

  • Parenting education and resources

  • Opportunities to engage with other families in the community

First Wave Families operates as part of a statewide network of Patty Centers, which provide family support services across Maryland. The Crisfield center is made possible through funding from Maryland Family Network and the Maryland State Department of Education. These partnerships ensure that services meet high standards and are aligned with state goals for family and child well-being.

Maple Shade Youth and Family Services plays a key role in managing the Crisfield center, bringing local knowledge and experience to the effort. This collaboration strengthens the connection between families and community resources, making it easier for parents to find the help they need.
